Memorial Service was held on Saturday August 31, 2002 at 10am at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Hill. "Trust" pot luck picnic lunch followed.
Memorial gifts can be made in Jerry's name to Hospice of Contra Costa or to Kaiser Walnut Creek Hospice.. He really believed in the work of hospice, and both of these organizations treated Jerry very well in his last weeks and days.
Add sauce to beans to taste. Dad liked his HOT, but made a much milder version for us.
Best when eaten with Tortilla Chips - preferably deep fried, salty ones.

Dad memorized this poem as a child
and recited it often throughout his life.
It was always a prominent feature
in our household.
We believe he got it from his Grandmother Huvelle.
Dad's Favorite Poem
Dad was a
Jonathan Livingston Seagull fan.
Mom captured this shot for him.
He kept a framed print in his office.
I took this great picture of Dad in Paris in September 1994 (We were on the Left Bank.) We met there (he came from California, I came from Japan) for the Huvelle family reunion. We walked our feet off, battled jet lag, saw family and lost cameras, and it was a memorable trip!

My Granddaddy's Red Hammer
One of Dad's favorite funny poems:
One of Dad's favorite funny songs:
The Wisdom of Jerry:
When your computer is not cooperating with you, remember that "it's doing exactly what you are telling it to do."
So helpful! ;-)
I first saw my Granddaddy use this hammer when I was a toddler, and my father used this hammer from the time I was seven. I loved the hammer, and would try to claim it as my own. Although Dad fought me tooth and nail on that, he ultimately left the hammer to me!
More Wisdom of Jerry:
"Measure twice, cut once."
&
"Utilize the power of leverage!"

AND DID YOU ALSO KNOW?

More John Denver:
Dad's favorite hymn was "Amazing Grace" and he loved bagpipes and resonant deep voices (a la "Old Man River") He would have liked the video of Il Divo singing it!
JERRY!
Calypso by John Denver
To sail on a dream on a crystal clear ocean
To ride on the crest of a wild raging storm
To work in the service of life and the living
In search of the answers to questions unknown
To be part of the movement and part of the growing
Part of beginning to understand....
Thinking about Dad - today is his 69th birthday.
The words of this song capture my father's spirit of adventure and his love for knowledge and growth and being part of something larger than himself, and contributing to benefit people's lives. He loved this song.
